How I got here

Business in Mannheim, then real estate at IREBS and Hines in Munich, with six months in Copenhagen and a semester in Dar es Salaam along the way. Markets and software came in through the side door.

Leander Hirschmüller

Business and real estate

I studied Business Administration at the University of Mannheim from 2018 to 2021, and in 2023 I started my M.Sc. in Real Estate at IREBS, University of Regensburg. The master’s drew me toward operational real estate, where the property and the business running it are hard to value apart.

International experience

My bachelor’s included a remote exchange semester with Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, which I took during COVID while spending time in the United States and Mexico. Once I had my degree, I spent six months in Copenhagen, studying at Copenhagen Business School and working part-time in digital marketing. Later, as part of my master’s, I spent a semester at Ardhi University in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Real estate at Hines

At Hines in Munich, I started in 2024 as an intern in Development and Asset Management, working on Lenbachgärten Offices. From 2025 into 2026, I worked in Acquisitions alongside my master’s: financial models, due diligence, and a lot of conversations with brokers.

Building my own tools

Teaching myself technical things goes back to my teens, when I rooted my Android phones to see what else they could do. When my questions outgrew the tools I had, I started building my own: a pipeline that turned scattered marina information into a dataset I could analyze, and a research setup where an AI assistant works with my own screeners and market data. I like owning a tool from the first question to the version I actually use.

Markets

I follow the stock market closely and trade it myself. What I spend the most time on is how single stocks perform against the broader market, and where institutional money starts to move in or out. That is how the screeners and indicators started.

Beyond work

Freedom is what I care about most, and the water is where I feel it most directly. Out there, the world gets bigger and life gets simpler. I hold German boating licenses for coastal and inland waters, and some of my best thinking happens at the helm. On land, it’s cycling, calisthenics, and the mountains around Munich.
